WHERE IS YOUR RAGE? Ram Brisueno
Ram Brisueno, a 2019 Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Award Recipient, recognized by Maryland for his "importance to the cultural fabric of our state," has supported Beyond Rhetoric's auction with WHERE IS YOUR RAGE?
"Ram Brisueno is a Baltimore based, self taught artist with a degree in English from UMBC. One day he took his poetry and began painting around, and literally on them. Ram considers himself a collagist focusing on form, color, and stories within his paintings using acrylics, watercolors, found objects and mixed media in a collage of styles, textures, and sculptural objects and details layered within unique and hidden narratives. An almost surreal perspective between material and transformations that play in stories and dreams. Ram has lived in New York and Baltimore showing his work in a number of galleries, venues, and private collections."
Artist's Statement
My work uses a variety of mediums, materials, and objects to create narratives that relate to personal identity and social perceptions with an emphasis on highlighting textures, color and form and bringing the work together with attention to both surface and concealed images and meanings revealed through intuitive response allowing a compositional unity that creates themes of mythmaking and personal identity. Felix Gonzalez-Torres, an artist I greatly admire, put it simply "Above all else, it is about leaving a mark that I existed: I was here. I was hungry. I was defeated. I was happy. I was sad. I was in love. I was afraid. I was hopeful. I had an idea and I had a good purpose and that's why I made works of art."
