"Protest" William Wright

The Baltimore Art Gallery (instagram) was generous with the donation of "Protest," a framed, 12" square oil painting. This original oil painting would normally retail for $190 (framed and ready to hang) in the Baltimore Art Gallery.  The Baltimore Art Gallery celebrates local Baltimore artists, offering original art at accessible prices, through our walk-in store in Hampden and online here

William Wright painted "Protest" during the height of the unrest over George Floyd's killing and frustration over police reform. William brought in a number of pieces, but highlighted this one, saying "I had to do something."

Here are the words from William's website: William Wright is a self taught artist, born and raised in England, currently living and working in Baltimore, MD, USA.

He was inspired at an early age by the large Henry Moore sculptures in London and a school trip to an exhibition of Salvador Dali at the Tate Gallery in 1980: "I liked that adults took such absurd things seriously."

William paints in a variety of styles with fondness for surrealism, expressionism and bright colours.

William has suffered with depression and alcoholism and finds that art is great therapy and distraction. He has been sober since 1997!

Winner of RAW BALTIMORE : BEST VISUAL ARTIST 2013, William has had work displayed at the prestigious Visionary Arts Museum in Baltimore.
