Bio: Jonathan Molvik finds inspiration for his paintings in natural forms woven through urban development. His layered paintings depict the interactions between positive and negative (as well as natural and constructed) spaces by looking through, beyond, and around forms. Influenced by his study of batik in Indonesia, masking and printmaking methods create layers within his work. He received his B.A. in Studio Art from UCLA, studying under John Baldessari, Roger Herman, and Tim Ebner, and his MFA in Visual Arts from UCSD studying under Ernest Silva. Jonathan has been teaching art and graphic design as an adjunct professor at the University of Saint Francis, Purdue University Fort Wayne, Ivy Tech, Huntington University and Taylor University. Jonathan Molvik lives and works in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Jonathan has been working as a fine artist for over twenty years. He is represented by Crestwoods Gallery in Roanoke, The Paradigm Gallery inside the Fort Wayne Museum of Art and The Laguna Art Gallery in Southern California. His artwork is featured in the 2020 and 2022 Irvine Valley College’s Literary Journal, The Ear. He has been an exhibiting artist with the juried Laguna Art-A-Fair Fine Art Festival in Laguna Beach.
