Medium: Watercolor

I painted this flower while at a nursery with other artists painting outdoors or "en plein air". The light behind the flower really made it stand out. I like to have a little humor going on in my paintings and sometimes a little mystery. I enjoy the challenge of painting something we commonly see every day in a surprising and interesting way or choosing a subject I’ve never tried to paint before. All of my paintings are based on photos that I have taken. Sometimes I’ll create a painting using a very small portion of a photo, always looking for a strong pattern of light and dark. I’ve studied with many nationally known artists for over 30 years. My artwork has been included in exhibits in Illinois and Wisconsin. Most recently, I received an Honorable Mention Award at the Illinois Watercolor Society Members Exhibit.
