Free Flying

Medium: Acrylics

As a 13 year old and pretty much self taught artist, I am still trying to find my style and the subject matter that I love to paint. Recently, I have been enjoying painting birds because of their different colors, shapes, and attitudes. One bird may be placid, while another is spontaneous. Most males are bright and colorful, while most females are more muted. There is a large variety in which I find exciting and interesting to paint. I started off this painting by deciding: what do I want to express? For “Free Flying,” I wanted to express freedom and not caring about what others think. Using acrylic paints, I found a reference that was close to the idea in my head, and got to work. I had a lot of fun experimenting with a different pose than the usual bird sitting on a branch. Once the piece was finished, I was really satisfied with how I had tried something new, as well as the outcome.
