TIFFANY FALLS, HAMILTON

Artist: E Robert Ross

Medium: Acrylic on canvas

30" x 40"

E. Robert Ross has been a full-time artist since 1975, exhibiting primarily in Southern Ontario. He was born and raised in the Hamilton area, where he currently resides with his wife. He also lived on Vancouver and Saturna Islands for some time. Ross's landscapes are panoramic. He beckons to our personal imaginings by placing us in a particular spot, at a specific time. Deliberate in his compositions, his paintings draw the eye into the centre of the piece, welcoming the viewer to enter the landscape.

His representation of the equilibrium within nature's elements is also intentional. Sky, earth, and water strike a balance, a harmonious partnership in Ross's landscapes. In Ross's paintings, the elements work together, sometimes tranquil, sometimes turbulent, but always powerful forces in nature. An avid outdoorsman, Ross’s paintings reflect his genuine love of nature with a style that is both reflective and bold.

Ross' paintings have been collected locally, nationally, and internationally. They can be found available for sale locally at McMaster Fine Arts.

He is represented in Toronto, by Gallery Gevik located in the Yorkville area. In recent years, he has been commissioned to do some large-scale works which may be viewed in public areas at the McMaster University Medical Centre, St. Joseph's Hospital, the David Braley Research Institute (north of the Hamilton General Hospital), the Royal Botanical Gardens Headquarters Building, the Juravinski Cancer Centre, the David Braley Health Sciences Centre (across from City Hall), Mohawk College, the John Sopinka Court House.

Artist’s Statement
I have always enjoyed being outdoors; from hikes in local conservation areas, to wilderness adventures such as mountaineering, or canoe tripping. One is reminded that we, as humans, are a part of nature; and can learn from studying the natural world. This is the central theme of my artwork. An early interest in the work of landscape photographers led me to a realistic style of painting, in acrylics. However, the most important part of painting landscapes, for me, is the symbolism of the elements, and the association one can imagine from the depiction of the scenes. I always hope to suggest "going beyond" the landscapes. It is the underlying spirit of nature that ties the landscape together with our human existence.
