Artist’s Statement
My focus is creating works that convey calm, excitement or stir emotion. Through the infusion of light, saturation/desaturation of colour, I aim to produce landscapes, both real and imagined, that are infused with ethereal light, depth and hope.
‘Twilight’s Last Gleaming’ came to be after an impromptu photo shoot near Lake Rosseau in Ontario. I had just finished a long day participating in an event with a local gallery in Rosseau. While driving along a cottage country road at sunset, the wetlands on the side of the highway caught my eye. The lighting was breathtaking. I had to stop and get some photos, as I knew I would want to paint the scene. This piece was completed in my home studio using the grouping of photos as a ‘jumping off point’. The terms ‘golden hour’ and ‘chasing the light’, may sound cliché, but for me these are mantras!
