"I chose Shipwreck at the Bottom of the World by Jennifer Armstrong for several reasons. First, it tells the true story of one of the most extraordinary adventures ever. It’s a fascinating read from cover to cover. Second, 106 years after the Endurance was crushed and sank in the Weddell Sea, Antarctica it was found by a group of marine archaeologists, technicians, and adventurers in great condition in March of 2022. Finding the Endurance was an amazing feat and seeing photos of it in water that is nearly 10,000 feet deep makes the survival story of the 28 men who were onboard even more fascinating. Lastly, before becoming a teacher I had the opportunity to make 8 trips to Antarctica and was able to visit both South Georgia and Elephant Island. These are very special places to me, and I would like everyone to know the story of the men who persevered and managed to live through such an amazing experience."
