Materials:
Custom made fiberglass lamp shade, hand made Japanese Kozo paper (provided by James Kleiner), custom machined aluminum fitting (donated by Travis Pendergrass, machinist), carbon steel legs with gun metal patina. Thanks to Spye for purchasing some of the materials necessary for fabrication.
Artist statement:
I lost my son Evan Thornton to cancer and this work is driven by these circumstances.
Artists bios:
Michael Thornton is a 1998 graduate from Minneapolis College of Art and Design. He lives and works in Minneapolis, MN and his background is Furniture Design, but practices architecture, drawing and painting. He is a Designer at Spye.
James Kleiner is a 2012 graduate from Minneapolis College of Art and Design. He lives in Minneapolis and runs the production facility at Cave Paper. His background is Fine Art.
