Niguma Thanka—Lama Willa Collection

Rare thanka of Niguma, the female founder of the Shangpa lineage. Niguma was the author of the Six Yogas of Niguma, and was adept at the practice of Illusory Body. A rare female lineage founder, she has been an inspiration to women practitioners for centuries. Kalu Rinpoche was the main holder and propagator of this lineage in the last century.

This thanka was commissioned by Lama Willa in 1995 from a master thanka painter (Lama Ngoga) in Nangchen, Eastern Tibet. She collected it in person in 1999. It has graced Lama Willa’s personal shrineroom ever since. Anam Thubten (a thanka painter himself) remarked spontaneously, when he saw this painting, that it is of unusually good quality.
