The Commission

Namaste Akita Rescue Alliance commissioned Brian Lee to produce a pair of images honoring the history and spirit of the Akita breed and the noble rescue work of the foundation. The source material consisted of digital snapshots of rescued Akitas.

With creative input from Diane Fong, the color images were converted to black and white to better convey a sense of the long and storied history of the breed. Through several iterations, the images developed into a digital montage of many of the organizations rescued Akitas as the background.

“Hachiko” features the famous statue that stands outside Shibuya Station in Tokyo commemorating the enduring devotion of the Akita of the same name. “ Kanji” portrays the Japanese characters for “Akita” in the foreground. Both are executed in a digital sepia tone.

Limited Edition Giclée Prints

These giclée prints are the first in a limited edition of ten prints. Each is printed on 100% rag heavy weight fine art paper using archival ultrachrome inks projected to be colorfast in excess of 50 years. They are framed behind UV filtered non-glare glass.  If they are ordered unframed, they are shipped in a mailing tube.

Brian Lee is retired CEO/Chief Nerd of Forte Systems, Inc. by vocation and a photographer and digital artist by avocation. His giclée prints can be found in private collections throughout the United States.
