Vajra Armor Amulet - Glass & Brass Wire
This beautiful glass amulet is truly one of a kind! It represents the collaboration, time, and generosity of multiple artisans and practitioners for the well-being and liberation of beings.
The Vajra Armor (Dorjei Kotrab) mantra is found in the termas of Ngadag Nyang Ralpa, Sangye Lingpa, and Dorje Lingpa. It is a universal healing mantra given by Padmasambhava to be used in the Kaliyuga. The termas describe many uses of the mantra to cure or prevent many diseases, including how to make a Vajra Armor amulet for protection.
Before leaving this world on September 27th, 2018, Chogyal Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche regularly gave empowerment of this mantra and specific instructions of how to activate and use it as an amulet worn around the neck. This amulet has been prepared and activated in accordance with Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche's instructions.
The paper used in this amulet was made by members of the Khandroling Paper Cooperative (http://khandrolingpapers.blogspot.com), a group of independent artists connected to the Namkhai Norbu's Tsegyalgar Dzogchen Community and Khandroling, the sacred land of the Dakinis in Buckland, MA. The cooperative makes special paper from worn-out texts and other sacred materials for use in calligraphy, spiritually meaningful art such as mandalas, as well as materials intended to create a link to an enlightenment tradition through touch and sight.
The handmade paper in this amulet is infused with gold leaf and precious substances gathered from sacred places, including substances such as earth and sand from power spots around the world, plant materials such as nettles from Milarepa's birthplace, juniper from Machig Labdron's birthplace, and clay from Ayukhandro's cave.
To make this amulet, the Vajra Armor mantra was written by hand on the special paper in gold ink in a long unbroken line, empowered, then wrapped with other sacred substances in gold-flecked royal blue Habotai silk, then sealed inside the glass vial of the amulet.
The amulet itself is extremely unique, handmade out of glass and brass wire by Peter Heisig (https://peterheisigdesigns.com), an artist and jewelry maker in the Monadnock region of New Hampshire. The brass will patina over time, complimenting and contrasting the gold leaf and silk inside the sealed vial.
The amulet measures 43mm (1 5/8") long including the top loop, and 15mm (9/16") wide.
