Hand-Painted Thanka—The Wheel of Samsara
This high quality, exquisitely detailed thanka depicts the wheel of samsara. It is a complex, but deeply instructive symbolic representation of the experiences of birth, death, and rebirth that all sentient being of the six realms experience as they cycle from lifetime to lifetime. In the center of the painting, the pig, rooster, and snake represent the three poisons of attachment, aversion, and indifference. The second circle of the painting, moving out from the three poisons, represents karmic action, which leads to the third circle, the six realms of samsara. The fourth cycle represents the twelve links of interdependence - the process by which birth and death keep spinning. The monstrous figure holding the entire wheel represents impermanence.
This lovely, little thanka is hand-painted on canvas. It is unframed, and measures 11.5 x 15 inches.
