Sacred Hike to Royal Arch with Lama Willa and Lopon Liz

Sacred Hike to the Royal Arch Overlook and Cave
Springfield, New Hampshire
September 7, 2019, 10am-4pm

Join Lama Willa and Lopon Liz Monson and a small group (maximum 10 participants) for a sacred hike on the Sunapee Trail System to Royal Arch Overlook and the cave beneath it.

Our journey will begin with a hearty New England breakfast at 10am, made by Lama Willa and Lopon Liz, at Lama Willa’s cabin in Springfield, NH. From there, we will set out towards the beautiful Kidder Brook Trail where we will enter a verdent evergreen forest, and will pause to find a “refuge tree” under which to practice, in the spirit of Buddha’s finding inspiration from the Bodhi tree. Mid-hike, arriving at the Royal Arch Overlook, we will engage in the yogic practice of skygazing. Then, entering the Royal Arch Cave, a sacred spot for the Algonquin Indians, we will practice cave meditation as a group like the yogis of yore.

As mid-afternoon approaches, we will descend to a beautiful mountain pond to practice water-meditation. Finally, we will return to Lama Willa’s cabin for refreshments before departing. Our hike will include periods of noble silence, instructions in how to take walking as a meditation practice, intimate teachings with Lama Willa and Lopon Liz, and joyful connecting with other sangha members (feel free to bid on this with friends!). The hike is moderate difficulty, with some considerable hill climbing.

This event will happen rain or shine. If there is light rain, we will go with rain gear. If weather is very bad we will stay near the cabin together for meditation practice, teachings and other activities, including some frivolity.

Accommodations are not included. However, this new date happens to coincide with the September Open Practice Weekend (September 6–8) and Dharma Sunday on September 8 so if you wanted to stay at Wonderwell the night before or after (or both and make a nice weekend of it!), that would be an option. You would have to register separately for that—it is not included in the auction hike package.

This is a "Blind Bid" auction item. The top ten bidders will win a spot for the event. The bid history will be hidden and bidders can put in their top bids for a chance to win. If you are overbid, you will receive an email notification, and have the opportunity to increase your bid.
