Apple Platter Frank Beurskens

Apple Platter. Frank Beurskens. Apple wood. 12" diameter.

Resurrecting life from the dead is of the divine realm.  A long abandoned Northern New Mexico orchard was once home to this character rich wood platter. The stump was destined for fire wood to the untrained eye, but to find an apple tree, over 100 years old, dead, but not gone is a special treat for someone who loves wood.  This shallow, 12 inch diameter platter, replete with age cracks and color variation that only stress and distress can produce, is food safe and perfect for serving your favorite cheese or charcuterie.

Driven by a need to create, experiment, and explore, I work as bricoleur, drawn to raw materials that have a soulful connection; something with a story.  My artistic quest began with wood but now expands to all forms of matter as I begin to see something other than what is there, in everything, everywhere.  The challenge is seeking simplicity in form and function while honoring the uniqueness of each material encountered “…where the inner shows itself in the outer, and the outer reflects the inner.”
