"Last Bloom" Anna Aragon
"Last Bloom" Anna Aragon. Reductive woodcut. 11" x 15". Not framed.
Century Plants are a fascinating example of “nature's last hurrah.” When the plant reaches the end of its life, it bursts into firey bloom and propagates by the spread of its fertilized seeds. It is a reflection of our efforts as humans to “leave our mark” in the world before we pass out of it.
Last Bloom is a reductive woodcut, in which layers in a wood block are carved away between each color printed. The print will pass through the press many times, once for each color.
Anna Aragon’s work has been published in the international printmaking journal The Hand. She is currently surviving with her husband, three dogs, and countless critters in the mountains of Northeastern New Mexico.
