1989-1995 NC Lighthouse Series

1996-2001 North Carolina Wildlife Heritage Series.

The Series of six stamps and prints feature significant historical sites that have played a role in the rich waterfowl traditions of North Carolina.

The Program

In order to help conserve valuable waterfowl resources and to provide funds for the benefit of migratory waterfowl management in North Carolina, the General Assembly of North Carolina ratified on June 18, 1982, General Statue 113-270.2B.  This law titled, “An Act to create the North Carolina Voluntary Migratory Waterfowl Conservation Stamps Program” has enabled the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission to establish what has become one of the nation’s most successful waterfowl stamp programs.  Revenues from the sale of North Carolina Duck Stamps and Prints are carefully budgeted and used by the commission to fund broad waterfowl programs of improved management of existing resources, protection of wetlands habitat, appropriate land acquisition, enforcement, research and public education.

Purchase of stamps was voluntary until 1987.  Since then, waterfowl hunters in North Carolina have been required to buy a state waterfowl license in addition to the federal waterfowl stamps.

East Carolina Wildlife Guild

In 2008 the (Wildlife) Commission began partnering with the East Carolina Wildlife Guild which sponsors the winter wildlife festival, to conduct a nationwide competition open to the public.  Each year the Commission specifies five eligible species and related habitats for the competition.  Today the competition is managed by the Washington (NC) Tourism Development Authority.
