Arthur Erickson's Museum of Glass - Tacoma, WA
Canadian Arthur Erickson’s instantly recognizable volcano-like tilted cone on the Tacoma skyline is appropriately rendered in clear glass with inscribed diagonals in the base, imparting a sense of the actual building's exterior geometry. The building design draws upon industrial precedents including wood burners found throughout the pacific northwest as well as factories and chimneys of the region. The cone is home to the "hot shop" where visitors can watch live glass blowing in an amphitheater like space.
