About the Artist

Garrow Throop was a career Graphic Designer after graduating from RISD. His commercial life taught him how to communicate ideas visually in much the same way he practices fine art today. In the beginning, Throop began his artistic life by combining his knowledge of photography and his love of painting into one single composition. This hybrid imagery mixed the reality of a photograph with the fantasy of a painting leading the viewer to balance between the two.

Today Throop has morphed entirely to painting in multiple media. This most recent work borders on the abstract with some being more identifiable than others. In all cases they are studies in color and composition. It can be said about his work that it is never finished.

“If it is done, the adventure is over. Many of these canvases have been reworked multiple times. Learning when to stop is very difficult. There are no rules, but I get excited each time I see a landscape that would work and think of how I would treat it.“

Throop and his family live in Truro throughout the summer. He is a member of the Truro Historical Society, The Truro Artists Group (currently on display at the Truro Library throughout July) and PAAM (on display in August)
He is currently the Exhibits Chair for Newton Art Association and represented by Galatea Fine Art Gallery in Boston.
