About Us
Tinker Camp is a volunteer operated, 501(c)(3) nonprofit STEAM educational camp founded in North Portland in 2010. We use story to engage 3rd -7th graders in STEAM activities and challenges during seven week-long summer camps. For example, in our Intergalactic Exodus camp students are told that they are the last of the humans on a dying planet and must create and launch a spacecraft to save humanity. We then give them several challenges, like building a ship big enough to hold all the kids and creating a spacesuit and habitat for when we land on the new world. Story engages the child while they learn STEAM concepts like design thinking and grit.
