A Tour of Sunnylands for You and 6 Guests (7 total) Including Lunch at the Sunnylands Cafe and a Beautiful Sunnylands Coffee Table Book
This Event Takes Place on Friday, February 23, 2024, at 10:00 a.m.
Modernism Week is providing the winning bidder and up to 6 guests -seven (7) guests total - a very exceptional opportunity to vist, as a group of friends or as a family, the historic residence in Rancho Mirage known as 'Sunnylands'. Tickets always sell out quickly for this tour during Modernism Week, but we thought perhaps this year, for a lucky group of 7 guests, it might make for a special last-minute holiday gift, something that indeed would be a very big surprise!
As well, funds raised will benefit the Modernism Week Scholarship Program which provides four-year renewable scholarships to local students pursuing college educations in the fields of architecture and design.
Please bid generously!
About The Tour and Sunnylands:
At 10:00 AM on Friday, February 23, 2024, you and your 6 guests will be transported on an electric shuttle from Sunnylands Center & Gardens to the former winter home of Ambassadors Walter and Leonore Annenberg. A midcentury masterpiece with Mayan influences, the 25,000-square-foot residence was completed in 1966. Famed architect A. Quincy Jones designed the home, which interior designers William Haines and Ted Graber decorated in the Hollywood Regency style.
Guides on the 90-minute tour also inform guests about the rare paintings, sculptures, and other works of art on display in the home, as well as the world-famous 20th-century entertainers and politicians who visited the estate.
Plan to arrive at 9:00 AM to tour the new exhibition currently on view in the Visitors Center.
Variations to a Theme: William Haines at Sunnylands, spotlights the custom-made furniture and interior décor that the legendary designer William Haines created for the extraordinary home. Don’t linger too long, as you are required to check-in for your tour 15 minutes before departure.
Do not miss the tour, as late arrivals cannot be accommodated, a policy that is strictly enforced.
Modernism Week will provide a $175 Gift Card to have lunch following your tour at the lovely indoor/outdoor Sunnylands Cafe, located on the Visitor’s Center terrace overlooking the gardens with sweeping views west to the mountains. Note: Seating at the cafe is offered on a first-come, first served basis.
The winning bidder will also receive soon after the conclusion of the auction, the beautiful coffee table book, Sunnylands: America’s Midcentury Masterpiece, Revised and Expanded Edition, written by Janice Lyle, was published in 2022 by Vendome Press. You’ll receive this in time for holiday giving, should this auction item be purchased as a holiday gift. If not, then you can peruse through the pages, anticipating the day when you’ll be there in person on Friday, February 23, 2024!
