George was born in Chino, California. He received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Redlands, studied at Harvard, in Italy, and received a Master of Arts from Claremont Graduate School and studied art with Millard Sheets and Henry Lee McFee. For thirty years, George taught art in the Whittier and Pomona Unified School Districts as well as at graduate schools. He was a member of the California Watercolor Society.
Robert George grew up in Southern California. In the late 1940’s, he began exhibiting watercolors and received notoriety for his colorful abstract and non-objective works. George’s dominant style was abstract expressionism. His work has been exhibited throughout California including Gump’s Gallery in San Francisco. His mosaic work is installed at Our Lady of Assumption in Claremont, California, altar screens at the Methodist Church in Chino, California and a collection of Nativity Scenes at the Headquarters of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America in Chicago, Illinois.
He was honored by winning many awards during his lifetime and served as President of the Pomona Valley Art Association and Director of the Chaffey Community Museum of Art.
