Jean Ames was a California painter, muralist, sculptor, ceramicist, and mosaicist. She was born on an orange ranch in 1903 near Santa Ana, California. Goodwin studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, Pomona College, UCLA, Chouinard Art Institute, and received her master degree from USC. Millard Sheets hired Jean to teach the design class at Scripps College - she was a consumate artist who excelled in drawing, painting, enamel, ceramics, mosaic art and much more.  In collaboration with Arthur Ames, her husband, she designed many mosaic murals, enamel and ceramic art pieces.  This piece is a collaboration between Jean and Arthur.
