#10 Lantern No. 144 | Gensler SJ
Lantern No. 144
Lantern No. 144 was crafted with the future of reuse in mind. Inspired by the origin story of Charity, we took a found lantern and turned it into a reimagined version of itself whilst maintaining its honesty and authenticity. This piece incorporates 3 crucial elements that also correspond with the imaginative adaptive reuse design of the future: 1- Existing conditions, in this case, these are the ordinary found objects, the lanterns and baskets; 2 - New resilient elements which are the cotton thread knitted to create a shade; and 3 - Imagination which can be found in our 3D printed connection joints, and the vision of the lanterns new form. Leveraging the strengths and skillsets of individuals on our team, we managed to transform a discarded lamp into a charming beacon that can be placed as a statement piece in a variety of settings.
