S.E. Hinton, from Tulsa, Oklahoma wrote The Outsiders, the book from which the cult classic movie was born. "Stay golden, ponyboy" is a catchphrase that will live on forever! The film was actually shot in Tulsa and Owasso, Oklahoma. Directed by Francis Ford Coppola, it helped launch the acting careers of Rob Lowe, Matt Dillon, Ralph Macchio, Tom Cruise, C. Thomas Howell & Emilio Estevez. S.E. Hinton actually played the role of a nurse in the movie herself!
