Birding Tour in Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve, Belize
The Mountain Pine Ridge is a unique habitat here in Belize. There are numerous species found in the Pine Ridge that are almost exclusive to this habitat. Birding will begin in the transition zone where broadleaf forest and pine forest meet. In this habitat, we will be looking for birds like the Ochre-bellied Flycatcher, Golden-crowned Warbler, Wedge-tailed Sabrewing, and Yellow-bellied Tyrannulet.
We then move to another section of the Reserve which overlooks Elijio Panti National Park. Here we will look out for raptors such as White Hawk, Bat Falcon, Double-toothed Kite, and King Vulture. Additional species at the outlook would be Chestnut-colored Woodpecker, White-browed Gnatcatcher, and Green Jays.
After birding the transition forest, we start moving into the pine-dominated habitat. Here we begin looking for the species tied to this type of habitat, including the Rufous-capped Warbler, Grace's Warbler, Plumbeous Vireo, Hepatic Tanager, Rusty Sparrow, and many other birds from these habitats.
