 Give this time for the dark roast coffee scent of the tannins to subside, and the fruit develops more clarity, moving to an undertone of black cherry, then a fresh bolt of cassis. The fruit feels sumptuous against the bristle of the tannin. Hewitt is a benchland vineyard in Rutherford next to Niebaum-Coppola. Tom Rinaldi, winemaker at Provenance, makes the wine here.
