Ruddy Duck Decoy
Determined birders can usually find a male ruddy duck like this one in the DuPage County forest preserves during fall migration. The white cheek patch is distinctive and present in all seasons. This decorative decoy was carved and painted by self-taught artist Rollin S. Reiter at his Canton, Ohio, studio in 1978. It was one of his earliest works, which speaks to his fondness for this diminutive waterfowl species.
