Sola Madonna Della Robbia Ceramic

The Sola Madonna Della Robbia is a taken from the Renaissance masterpiece originally created by Italian artist Andrea Della Robbia in the 15th century.  The shield shape is unusual. It is a glazed terracotta sculpture of the Virgin Mary and is distinguished by its striking blue and white colors. The sculpture is known for Mary’s serene expression and delicate details, such as the folds in her robes.

The original ceramic is in the Museo Nazionale del Bargello in Florence, Italy, and is considered one of the finest examples of Della Robbia's work and was highly influential in the development of Renaissance sculpture. Luca Della Robbia is considered one of the greatest sculptors of the Early Renaissance. His works are known for their delicacy, purity, and harmonious composition, and he is credited with helping to develop a new form of sculptural decoration that combined elements of painting and sculpture.
