Limited Edition Tail o' the Pup Mug - How Cute is This!

Have you been to Tail o’the Pup yet? It’s a pleasure to see this wonder of programmatic architecture, an important part of LA history, back in action.  Thank you 1933 Group for taking on the challenge to preserve Tail o'the Pup for everyone to enjoy.

In honor of its grand ‘re-opening’ last summer, a limited edition Tail o’the Pup coffee mug was commissioned, including a souvenir box, and the first 500 mugs came with an exclusive Adopt-A-Pup Club Membership Certificate.   This is one of those first 500 mugs, unused, pristine condition, and just waiting for you to buy it and proudly display at home.

In a retro-cool comeback, the Tail o’the Pup is back up and running at 8512 Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood. After years of back and forth, the quirkily shaped hot dog stand made its grand debut last summer at its new address. The original 1946 stand, beloved by countless celebrities over the decades, was first located on La Cienega Boulevard near Beverly, where you’ll now find Sofitel Los Angeles. In 2002, the Pup even made an appearance on A Cook’s Tour, one of late Anthony Bourdain’s earlier TV shows.

The preservationist-oriented 1933 Group, acquired ownership of the Tail o'the Pup in 2018, and they first announced plans to restore and expand the stand with an on-site dining area and new menu items. The Pup’s years-delayed grand opening finally happened last summer. Red and white stripes, bright mustard yellow accents now further distinguish the 76-year-old Pup, with the current colors chosen by 1933 Group’s unstoppable Bobby Green intended to resemble the original iteration as closely as possible.

Formed over two decades ago, the 1933 Group helms a lauded portfolio of hospitality establishments in Los Angeles, including the historical restorations of the Formosa, Highland Park Bowl and the barrel-shaped Idle Hour in North Hollywood, Harlowe in West Hollywood, Sassafras in Hollywood, La Cuevita in Highland Park, Bigfoot Lodge in Los Feliz, Thirsty Crow in Silver Lake, Culver City’s Bigfoot West and Oldfield’s Liquor Room, and the newly restored iconicTail o' the Pup. Combining design aesthetics that embrace various time periods in early America with a passion for cocktails and the revival of the art of bartending, owners Bobby Green, Dimitri Komarov, and Dmitry Liberman create imaginative libations and scenes throughout LA’s drinking landscape. Each concept reflects bold, modern interpretations, reflective of the company’s dynamic partners and memorable eras.
