Joseph Pentick Graphite Drawing the DuMond “Spy” House

An original drawing in graphite with gray mat and pewter frame by Joseph Pentick.  Pictured is one of the historic Hurley stone houses, the  DuMond “ Spy” House  (37 Main Street) built circa 1726 by Jacob Van Etten and used as a Guard House in 1777, housing the convicted British spy, Lt. Daniel Taylor. The drawing, dated 1979,  is donated by the Pentick family.

Dimensions:  Frame 15 x 21 inches.  Image 12 x 18 inches.

About the artist:  Joseph Pentick (1928-2021) was a local artist, college professor, graphic artist and longtime collector of books, pottery and antiques. He was known for his drawings of historic buildings and private homes and the Ulster County Tercentennial map which showed his love for the history of the Hudson Valley. We are honored to offer one of his original drawings in this auction.

Mr. Pentick was a member of the Arts Society of Kingston, Marbletown Artists Association,  Woodstock Artists Association, and Northeast Watercolor Society.  He was a founding board member of the Ulster Arts Alliance and a board member of the Hudson River Watercolor Society.

 Joseph held an Associates degree in Art from Albright Art School, B.S. in Art Education from SUNY Buffalo, M.Ed. from the University of Buffalo. He did further graduate work at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. Joseph was an Associate Professor of Art at SUNY New Paltz, and held faculty positions at Rochester Institute of Technology, Ulster County Community College, and SUNY Brockport. He taught art education and studio art classes including lithography, printmaking, graphic arts, painting and drawing.
