The project strikes a cord with me for multiple reasons. I am a naturalized citizen, born in Canada. I was adopted by US citizens as an infant. I’m not a refugee or what people think of when they think of an immigrant, but I am, non-the-less, an immigrant. I lived as an expatriate in the Middle East and know what it is like to live and work away from my home country. I recognize how blessed I am by simply by virtue of where (and when) on the planet I was born. The freedoms and life choices available to me as an American woman are abundant, profound and desired by many who live in poverty and oppression. I am also a Christian and Jesus, after all was born a refuge, was he not?
