Division #4 by Zo Frampton

Graphite on clayboard, clear lacquer finish
8 x 8 x 2 inches

Note:  Website is unable to capture the fine detail of this piece, but the drawing is distinct all the way to the edges of the circle.

Zo Frampton has shown her work in Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco. Her current body of work consists of intricate monochromatic drawings in ink, graphite and acrylic on clayboard. Through these drawings she explores her curiosity and concern for the natural world. The shapes and patterns found in microorganisms, schools of fish or the rhythm in storms: each image is built an element at a time, evolving in layers to create the final image.

"I don’t plan my compositions in advance. Each drawing is created piece by piece and layer by layer. This iterative process is incredibly time intensive, even obsessive. But the hours of patient, methodical work have intrinsic value. As I work I reflect on the longer time line of our precious earth, now in such obvious crisis, and what it might become. The simplicity of shape and pattern speak to beauty. The skeletal rendering in stark black and white presents a post-apocalyptic view of our oceans and other natural places that I hope will speak to the larger issue of conservation."

Measurements approximate to .25 inches.
