ABOUT Janet Y Hassinger MFA

Janet has a BFA in painting from Boston university, an MA in painting  from New York Universitys’ program in Venice Italy and an MFA from Stephen F Austin University  in studio arts.   She has taught watercolor for the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Tx and has taught life drawing, art history and watercolor for the College of the Mainland for 20 years.  A broad knowledge of contemporary art  comes from Curating for the COM College Gallery for 15 years.   One person and group exhibits have covered a 35 year career of exhibiting and teaching with an emphasis in watercolor.   As a teacher she is interested in developing the innate talent many individuals  have and enjoy.  

 The current body of work, “Lost Seas” refers to the many issues in our dying oceans. The focus is on the  coral reef as a vital source of food for the fish population and an indication of the health of the oceans . Hassinger has been diving for 20 years in Honduras where she does the plein air studies for this series.

Janet maintains a studio in Galveston Tx.
