Sandee Ewasiuk graduated from the Ontario College of Art specializing in editorial illustration. She studied Art and Art History at McMaster University and has since been painting and exhibiting for over twenty-five years. Her work is held in private collections in Canada, the U.S.A., Europe and Australia. She teaches at DVSA and the Burlington Art Centre.
Sandee specializes in exploring everyday scenes, turning them upside down, backwards and sideways. With vibrant reds, yellows and blues, she creates tongue and cheek landscapes populated by puckered lips and gravity defying hair. Using broad brushstrokes and thick layers of acrylic paint, she creates environments of texture and vibrant colour where fantasy and reality merge.
Artist’s Statement
Recently I’ve been painting a body of work that I’ve named “All Things Magic”. One of my reasons for painting this series was in hopes of lifting a few spirits during these difficult times, as well as lifting my own spirits. ‘Long Winter’s Nap' started out as a mixed media background with no idea what the subject would be. Eventually I could see the bear emerging in the painting. This piece, as well as the others in the series, is also about our own connection with nature and wildlife.
