Erie
Blown Glass
7" x 12" x 7"
Lake Erie, the shallowest of the lakes, was done as a goblet to refer to both the depth of the lake and elevate it to the same surface level as Superior, Huron, and Michigan, as the real lake is.
This series of vessels is a representation of the Great Lakes. By using a dark blue and unmelted white glass powder on the surface, these pieces reflect both the calm depths of the lakes and the unending drama of the surface and shores, a combination that has never failed to be inspiring. Individually they are beautiful pieces, but like the Great Lakes, they are strongest together. Each lake, and each sculpture, has their own characteristics that make them unique from the rest.
