Read about hard work & generosity in a couple of books that are favorites of one of Claremont’s most trusted and successful financial advisors. This unique basket also includes a handsome pair of marble bookends for your financial book collection, a bottle of wine and some nuts to snack on, and a gift certificate for 50-Fifty Asian Fusion restaurant.
- The Billionaire Who Wasn’t: How Chuck Feeney Secretly Made and Gave Away a Fortune by Conor O’Clery, (Public Affairs Books, 2013), Printing, 2021, paperback.
O’Clery reveals the inspiring life story of Chuck Feeney, known as the “James Bond of philanthropy.” Feeney was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, to a blue-collar Irish-American family during the Depression. After service in the Korean War, he made a fortune as the founder of Duty Free Shoppers, the world’s largest duty-free retail chain. By 1988, he was hailed by Forbes Magazine as the twenty-fourth richest American alive.
But secretly, Feeney had already transferred all his wealth to his foundation, Atlantic Philanthropies. Only in 1997, when he sold his duty-free interests, was he “outed” as one of the greatest and most mysterious American philanthropists in modern times, who had anonymously funded hospitals and universities from San Francisco to Limerick to New York to Brisbane. His example convinced Bill Gates and Warren Buffett to give away their fortunes during their lifetime, known as the giving pledge.
- I Love Capitalism: An American Story by Ken Langone, Cofounder of The Home Depot. (Penguin Random House, 2018) 13th edition. Hardcover.
In a series of fascinating stories, Langone shows how he struggled to get an education, break into Wall Street, and scramble for an MBA at night while competing with privileged competitors by day. He shares how he learned to evaluate what a business is worth and apply his street smarts to 8-figure and 9-figure deals. And he’s not shy about discussing, for the first time, his epic legal and PR battle with former NY Governor Eliot Spitzer.
His ultimate theme is that free enterprise is the key to giving everyone a leg up.
- Marble Bookends, 6” tall. One of Pilgrim Place’s experts concluded that calling these book ends Marble was okay, but technically they could be Calcite or Jadeite.
- 2019 J. Lohr Estates Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon.
90 Points, Best Buy, and one of the Year’s Best US Cabs.
Aromas of shaved cocoa and red cherry jam meet with a bit of smoke on the nose of this widely available yet reliable bottling. There is ample tension on the sip, giving the big-boned flavors of black cherry, incense and smoke the tannic edges to cling to.
- $25 50-fifty Asian Fusion Cuisine gift card.
Established in 2102, 50-Fifty was born out of a long tradition of Thai restaurants owned and operated by Joyce Johnson. Read more on Yelp, with 4.5/5 stars from 328 reviewers; it includes at least 169 photos.
- O Organics Organic Cashews roasted with Sea Salt, net weight 10 oz.
Beautifully gift-wrapped!
