"Koi Fish Waterfall" by Hannah Huang & Tyler Tan
Koi fish represent good fortune and can be associated with perseverance - just as those living with ALS need to do on a daily basis. The waterfall symbolizes a legend where koi fish would swim upwards against the stream bravely. Those who reach the top are rewarded and turned into a beautiful golden dragon. This is why we chose to make the top of the waterfall colourful and beautiful.
Those with ALS can get through anything and so they are the koi fish who reach the top - they are brave and persevere. If the koi fish are faced with death along the way it’s as if they take it like samurai, brave warriors who are recognized for the battle they’ve been through as well.
This paddle was submitted as a group trek alongside other members of Middlefield Collegiate Institute.
