Coastal Song (PRO)

"Coastal Song" is a 12'x12" acrylic on canvas depicting a howling wolf on a rocky outcrop overlooking a misty coastal British Columbia sunrise. It is a symbol of new beginnings, and the hope that each new day brings. A wish that each day might bring us closer to what we love and more in tune with our Mother Earth in a healing way for all who live here. It is a song we sing from our hearts when we feel alone and need some comfort and support. It is also a song of celebration for all who have come before to bring us to where we are now, and a song calling for the collective respect we need as a human species which carries the weight of responsibility for all those who will come after. It is a call for action and a courageous song that shows every single one of us can make a difference. Every single day we have this choice to listen to the call of the Earth in our hearts. It is always a song of hope. The wolf was inspired by a real-life icon for so many people, the much-loved lone wolf Takaya. May his legacy live on in our hearts and move us to protect all that is beautiful in our world. For this piece I referenced photos of Takaya, as taken by Cheryl Alexander. Thank you for sharing his story with so many! About the artist: Although creative as a child, life conditions pushed my art to the side for many years. A blessing in the disguise of a cancer diagnosis helped me realize that I must live vibrantly each day, trust my inner guidance, create artwork to bring joy to myself and others, and take actions to show that we can all make a difference in the world. I am now cultivating positive change and nurturing that creative spark back into my life and am excited to see where this path takes me! I am so lucky to live and paint in Prince George, British Columbia where there is an abundance of wildlife and nature all around to inspire me, but I know a piece of my heart will always remain on the coast with the cedars, wolves, and spirit bears.
