Beautiful plate with mural artwork by Alton S. Tobey. An original painting created in honor of Israel's 30th Anniversary of Statehood. The Plate is from a series of historical figures in Israel's history. 1978 Fairmont China.

Alton Stanley Tobey was born in 1914 in Middletown, CT, and in 1934 won a scholarship to the Yale University School of Fine Arts where he also taught for awhile. Alton Stanley Tobey resided for most of his life in New York.
Alton Tobey was described as "a muralist, portraitist, and illustrator whose renderings of famous events and faces hang in museums, libraries, public buildings, corporate offices, and private collections."
Tobey is ranked by the Artist's Trade Union of Russia as "One of the world's-best artists of the last four centuries".
Referring to the dichotomy between his realist works and his curvilinears and other modernist works, Alton Tobey once said, "I live an artistic double life: one of classical realism and the other of aesthetic exploration."
Alton Tobey died on January 4, 2005
