Hand-carved Truck

Dave Fram brings us this wonderful hand-carved stake truck. The details on this piece are wonderful, Pierre is driving the truck with his color pallet riding shotgun. Some of the details are Pierre, the 2020 license plates, the American flag, Fecon bumper sticker, and of course the hand-painted artwork on the sides.

From the artist:

As a whole, the truck project was chosen because I always remember folks looking forward to the annual auction truck each year.  I believe that there have been a couple of years now without one, and I wanted to rekindle the tradition and to remind folks of the neat trucks of the previous auctions.  A friend of ours said that it sounded like a good idea, but I should put my own unique spin on it.

The truck is based on the 1951 Chevy 4409 flatbed truck in Forrester Green (the default color of the time).  The bulk of the truck is made of recycled lumber from a Fecon skid.  Pierre, the driver, can pivot in the seat, so that he can get a good view of every direction.  The small bumper sticker on the tail of the truck is a tip of the cap to Fecon, of course.  The faded, waving American flag on the back references the “Across America” aspect of this year’s auction.  I have no idea of the hours spent on it but would have to guess 75 – 100 hours, roughly.  As a note, the signs on the sides are removable.

The tires on the truck are each marked with the “M/T” logo, which is the mark of Mickey Thompson brand tires.  The reason for this is as follows:  I had a brother-in-law, Tom Sudman, who was a very successful, two-time national champ motorcycle drag bike racer.  Even though he worked for Goodyear, he switched to Mickey Thompson tires on his race bike due to better performance.  We lost Tom to cancer about a year and a half ago, so the tires are my tribute to him.  We miss him a lot.
