Artist Statement:
"My formal education was long ago but wonderfully enriching. My informal education is through practice and therein lies the rub. With great jealous admiration and gratitude for those who spend the lion's share of their life practicing their art, I confess to being a part-timer. It is said that the time spent doing what you love can't be deducted from a life, but in my case that is a lie. At the end of a day in the studio I emerge saturated with visual and musical metaphors but despondent over missing a day of my "actual" life because painting is that "other" life, a separate reality, not a business, a life simply exploring the visual world. All of this is to say that I produce fewer paintings that go to galleries in comparison with those who have chosen art as their life and business."
