This beautiful portrait is a unique authentic depiction of the African King "Ghezo or Guezo". This portrait has been hand-signed by the artist.

This African King is known as "Ghezo or Guezo". He was an Ahosu (King) of the Kingdom of Dahomey, in present-day Benin, from 1818 until 1858. Ghezo replaced his brother Adandozan (ruled 1797 to 1818) as king through a coup with the assistance of the Afro-Brazilian slave trader Francisco Félix de Sousa. He ruled over the kingdom during a tumultuous period, punctuated by the British blockade of the ports of Dahomey in order to stop the Atlantic slave trade.

This high-quality portrait of the African King, "Ghezo or Guezo", has a glossy finish. It is a fragile piece of art.

Purchased Art does not have a banner on the bottom but has the artist signature.
