Red Thread by Mariel Clayton

Artist's Statement:

The Ink work is based on the Japanese idea that we are all connected to significant people via a 'Red Thread' - that runs from the heart, through and out our little fingers. No matter how far apart we are, the thread will never break, it stretches on and on until we find our way back to each other.

The gold fingertips represents 'Kint-sugi'.. the Japanese art/craft of putting broken pieces of pottery back together using lacquer and gold, or silver... so what was once considered 'broken' is made stronger and more beautiful despite the break.. and that inside, we are all comprised of precious mettle (pun intended).

2 framed pieces (no glass because of thread that connects the two pieces).
